Restoring and Preserving Brain Health
Neuroplasticity is the ability of neurons and neural networks in the brain to form new connections and to change the wiring of brain circuits. This happens constantly and is responsible for how we behave in response to new information. Neuroplasticity can be adaptive; for example, it can help restore lost functions following brain damage. On the other hand, neuroplasticity can also be maladaptive, e.g., if it is the result of stress-induced anxiety, withdrawal or substance abuse. In this Roundtable discussion, three of our keynote speakers will give their views on adaptive and maladaptive neuroplasticity in a session moderated by DR Journalist Jacob Rosenkrands.
